John Cantacuzenus - now became a monk Joasaph - reigned for only seven years, but the actual management of the country carried out over a quarter century, and then in ten years participated in the formulation of its policies. He was destined to live another twenty-nine years, until 1383 in the first years after leaving the government, John primarily engaged in writing his memoir, "Stories". Upon completion of this work Cantacuzenus for many years devoted himself to defending hesychast teachings.
