Reflecting on entirely mainstream criticism against Russian history - criticism, often acquiring a truly extremist - we must understand its most profound basis. I will address this to the figure of Ivan the Terrible. Vast majority of historians and, further, publicists, writers and so on. N. See it as clearly "unprecedented" and, in fact, even just a pathological tyrant, despot, executioner. It would be absurd to challenge that Ivan IV was despotic and cruel ruler; modern historian RG Skrynnikov who has devoted decades of his study period, proves that when Ivan IV the Terrible in Russia carried out "mass terror", in which "destroyed about 3 to 4 thousand people." - and destroyed in many cases clearly innocent and besides, brutally, with the tortures and the most serious methods of execution.
