Many believe a demonstration on August 25 the only action against the occupation of Czechoslovakia in the USSR. In fact, the protests were in Moscow and Leningrad, and in the Russian provinces, and in the non-Russian republics. Before the occupation, July 26, 1968, Anatoly Marchenko sent to the "truth" in the Prague newspaper "Rude Pravo" an open letter condemning the defamation campaign in Czechoslovakia and the threats to it.  July 29 Marchenko was arrested and soon convicted on trumped-up charges of "violating the passport regime" camps for a year.
