In the 20s the German physicist T. Kaluza and Swedish physicist O. Klein tried to unite Einstein's gravity and Maxwell's electromagnetism as the geometric basis, but going to a completely different way. They suggested that space-time is not a four (three spatial coordinates plus the time), and the five-dimensional, and entered another space coordinate. These physicists have written the equation for the curvature of the five-dimensional world, like Einstein's equations of gravity for the four-dimensional world. It was found that the additional equations that arise in the presence of a further measurement of the Maxwell equations are electrodynamics. Thus, it was found that electromagnetism can also give a geometric sense, though very unusual - due to the presence of the fifth dimension.
