...... .. ...... .. *, President and Managing Director ....... *** ....... Director ...... ***** ...... Control .... ******* ... .. Vice-Governors ... ... *********. Chiefs of departments ... *********** ... Older workers ..************* .. Workers This is a simplified scheme, but in reality the pyramid would have had even more elongated and less regular shape. However, if the number of people was the same and they all deserved increase, still remains only one president and a minimum of fifteen workers. If we follow Dr. Peter say that the president is incompetent, we have to admit that either (a) there is no one worthy to occupy a higher position, or (b) those who would it take, are on the lower levels and, consequently, lower their level of competence. When we imagine that sixty people below the president on a post, only two or three can take his place in the presence of vacancies, we have to conclude that fifty-seven or fifty-eight of them are doomed due to the natural course of things to be disappointed. Even if ten of them were potential candidates for this position, the majority would have to be satisfied with less than a high position. The narrowing of the pyramid holds career development of people, regardless of their competence. People only appropriate stewardship, do not become directors, but rather the opposite: many of them are managers and due to the lack of vacancies in the board of directors. When applied to a rectangle Peter Principle would still have some credibility. When applied to the pyramid, he simply will not do.
