The above constitutional characteristics of the Russian state are complemented by the provisions of Art. 14 of the Constitution, proclaiming Russia a secular state. Despite the special traditionally strong role of the Russian Orthodox Church in the life of Russian society, the Constitution stipulates that no religion in our country can be established as state or obligatory, and all religious communities are separate from the state and equal before the law. The constitution does not explicitly establish schools separate from the church, but the sign of the secular nature of the Russian state is enshrined in sectoral legislation, in particular in the Russian Federation Act of 10.07.92
